I do hope the CIC goes ahead, developers will probably turn them into HMOs and fill them with students and then your community will change, probably not in ways you’d welcome.LIKED (7)REPLYSHARE |
| LizLiz’s SubstackJan 30Liked by Abi WhistanceThis article sits well with the one you did about the Eldonians,(how not to do it) Surely Liverpool is full of people who have built their communities against the odds – Granby, Welsh streets come to mind. Why do these battles have to be fought from first base every time, however heroic and admirable the people are?LIKED (6)REPLY (1)SHARE |

| Ken JPJan 30Liked by Abi WhistanceJust a detail point on Housing Market Renewal. It didn’t ‘run out of money’, it’s funding was curtailed from 2011 when the Coalition came into government. This left many developments derelict or unfinished in various parts of the country, which have only gradually been developed in the austerity-scarred years since.LIKED (5)REPLY (1)SHARE |

| MikeJan 30Liked by Abi WhistanceHaving felt the pain of buying a house that was knackered I have sympathy for the homeowners involved. I can only imagine my smiling face in the 90’s labouring for the plasterer. I did not capture it for posterity. Everything that can go wrong, does. Those tv programmes turn my insides out. Hopefully something good can happen with the rest of the abandoned properties, they must attract all kinds of mischief….LIKED (4)REPLYSHARE |

| Carolyn ThorntonJan 31Liked by Abi WhistanceInteresting, hopeful and inspirational piece. After renovating my parents old home so I could live there, I feel their pain. It always costs more than you think and many faults were found from the original building of my Edwardian Terrace. I truly hope the CIC works and that it keeps this community as it is. Fingers crossed for Maxine, she is a force to be reckoned with and every community needs one.LIKED (3)REPLY (1)SHARE |

The subject was fascinating to me. But I stopped watching in series 2, as I used to get so wound up about what the residents were going through. Definitely not rose-tinted.The residents are very special people. Good luck to the CIC if they can revive it.LIKED (3)REPLYSHARE |

| DanielFeb 5It would be incredible if the CIC could provide training and work experience opportunities for young people but of course, this would also require funding and support to achieve. Maybe there’d be an opportunity to collaborate with an organisation like Nobody Left Behind and those involved could be given a stake in the properties they renovated and sell them for a profit at the end of the process. Also not really related to this article but I thought we paid for a subscription to keep the Post advert free so not sure how ‘Home of the week’ seems to have crept into the mix?LIKED (2)REPLY (1)SHARE |
| MaxFeb 11Hi, thanks for the opinion, have been discussing giving those young people who work on the property first refusal of living here. Keeps them motivated? I will look into Nobody Left Behind. You are right we need all the stakeholders on board we can get before approaching the council, please keep the tips coming.LIKE (1)REPLY (1)SHARE |
