The Kent Downs Day 3

Boughton Lee to Folkestone 17 miles

Waking up a little later, I had my breakfast to go as I wanted to make the most of the dry weather. Interactions with other hikers along this route has been rare so when I saw a gaggle of girls heading in my direction I joined them along the way. The group were aged 15 and were on a Duke of Edinburgh Award and had spent the night in a field camping, navigating solely with map and compass.

Kudos

I broke away and headed up hill to my pit stop for the morning, the Village of Wye, and the main attraction, the Wye Crown, which you may ask wye I even bothered to take a picture at all.

I’d seen some strange things on this hike, Lamas enclosed with Peacocks, and now Donkeys enclosed with Ducks, whatever next Bambi?

No, just a prolapsed woolly womb
Oh deer

I was ploughing through field after field keeping my eyes peeled for a first glimpse of the coast.

The only way is South

Before I knew it was midday and I had made good time so I planned a leisurely pub lunch in Stowting.

The Tiger Inn is a well known gastro pub which I happened upon and bagged a seat during a Good Friday lunch rush. I enjoyed their home made soup and a pink kiss.

The view!

I’m not sure why I was so keen to set eyes upon the coast, perhaps I needed confirmation I was actually on the right track, once in sight all it confirmed was how far I still have to go.

Tis the 3rd and final day, the feet ache and I’m due on my period today, I’m fighting against the tide to reach the coast, where is this bloody coast?

Under
Over
The coast!

I decided to break out the chocolate and found an interesting BBC podcast about periods to embrace the last leg of the journey.

After spotting a way mark that looked eerily like a tomb stone at the start of this journey, now a testament to my accomplishments.

Folkestone from above

At around 6pm I was looking down on the town i’d spent my formative years growing up in.

Folkestone, was where my Liverpudlian mother decided we were moving to at the age of 6 and the town I couldn’t wait to leave, ironically today it’s the place I couldn’t wait to arrive at.
